Megaphylophyta

Megaphylophyta have massive, globular rhizome rootstocks. They have a central stems or trunks, from the top of which several lateral branches are attached. They have very large bipinnate or quadrapinnate fronds, with opposite pinnae. The fronds are dimorphic, with the fertile leaves much contracted, and covered below with sunken synangia. They are eusporangiate, having sporangium formed groups of cellsrather than a single initial cell, and fused into a bivalvate structures.
